Healthy snake death

Question
Hi Andy,

I had a 4 year old Taiwanese rat snake all was fine with him until I noticed he was not moving around his tank and when I picked him up he was very limp. The next day I got home to take him to the vet but he was dead. He had no evident signs of being ill except he had rejected his last couple meals, but considering he was 7 foot long and had done this in the past I did not consider this a problem. He did have a bloody discharge from his mouth when he died, I looked for signs of mouth rot but could find non and I was thinking this could have been caused by parasites? What do you think?

I have another snake sharing the same tank and was wondering if I can get any medicine just in case there are any parasites, what would you recommend?

Thanks a lot,

Justin

Answer
Hi Justin,

The most likely cause of death would be parasites. this would be a parasitic worm that penetrates the intestine and causes internal bleeding and peritonitis.

it would be a good idea to take your other snake to a vet to get some deworming medicine just to be sure.

im sorry about your snake's death and i hope this helps,

Andy
