Question
how are you? i have just recently purchased a ball python bout 2ft right now and a colombian redtail boa bout 20inches... they were in same tank when i purchased them from pet store and now they are living in a 6ft 120gallon tank... i hear it is not good to do so but it seems as tho they are happy in same tank.. the humidity in tank is at 60% usually and the temp is round 60-70degrees are those good and if not what do i need to do to make them better living? i have a heat pad under the artificial grass material where the big log is for them to sleep on farend of tank... i also have 2 heat lamps 1 which is 75watts and other 200watts.. 75watts close to log and the 200watts closer to waterside of tank.. the tank is 6ft long but 4ft of it is for the snakes and that is bout 2ft high.. the reason bein is the other 2ft is water for a turtle... is all that ok? i know the boa is goin to get bigger so we will have to make some changes but right now he is still a lil guy.. sorry for such long email just wanted to explain to you how tank looked so you could give me your best answers.. thank you for your time and have a merry christmas... best reached by email @

Answer
Hey Mathew,

You are correct in the issue of housing pythons with boas. They each carry different deceases. Now I am not saying that either one of your snakes is sick just that the risk is there. There is a decease boas carry in particular call IBD which can kill a python within a couple months.

Your six foot tank is plenty big enough for the redtail. She will get to be around 8-9 feet maybe more. The temp is low actually by around 20 degrees. It should be around 85-92 degrees F. The humidity level is right on and should be with the water for the turtle. Both snakes require around the same temp and humidity levels.

If you can I would suggest separating them. To be safe.

Hope this helps,
