Question
I have a green lizard that lives in my yard. I live in Ft. Lau. It's about 18" long. It has yellow on it's side near it's neck. It has no crown. It has small babies approx. 8" long.I don't think it is an Iguana. Do you know what kind of lizard it is? Can you send me some pictures so I'm sure?

Answer
Hi Hailey,

One species (not native) that fits the size you state is the water dragon.  http://travel.mongabay.com/china/images/china_103-7215.html

Here is a link to several pages of lizards...can you identify it from one of the  lizards listed there? http://travel.mongabay.com/lizard_photos.htm
Is it possible for you to take a picture of it?  I know of no native lizard to Florida that is what you describe.  Many species there have been released or escaped by owners.
Can you give me a little more info on it if you aren't able to take a picture of it?  (for a pic, you can send it to me at diane@scalesandtails.org)
With the 18" you are including the tail, correct?  On the babies, they are 8 inches total, including tail?
Are the babies the same color?
Can you tell what the lizards are eating?
Are they out in the sun, basking?
do they have spikes on their back?
Long tail or short tail?
is the lizard smooth skinned and shiny or is it scaled?
Most lizards don't keep their babies with them....eggs are laid, the females goes off and the  eggs hatch and the babies hang together for a time. To see green iguanas...you can go to my webshots http://community.webshots.com/user/rottnborder

Does the lizard look anything like the on here: http://www.geocities.com/becko69/BAJA_ROCK_LIZARDS.html

If you are able to send me a picture of it, that would help greatly.
