Question
hello,

i'll just cut right to chase. My husband works in a factory which receives some of its shipments from Florida. Well, the guys found a tiny (about 2 inches from nose to tip of tail) House Gecko on one of the boxes. We live in South Dakota so it was quite the trip for the little guy.  He seems to be doing ok considering. I don't know a lot about geckoes so was hoping you could help. I do have a dragon so i have some extras from him.. right now ive got the baby in a 10 gal. tank with heating pad under half. no uv source yet, i thought i had extra light and dont so will get tomorrow.  I threw in a couple of fruit flies and a lid with water in it.  If you have any suggestions that would be great. I really want to do what i can for the little guy.  Thanks, Sara

Answer
Hi Sara, I love stories about stowaways. I'm in Canada and we get baby anoles hatching out of eggs in the soil of houseplants from Florida. House geckos are nocturnal so don't stress about getting him a UV light. His warm area should be around 80 - 85 F. He will eat fruit flies and small crickets. You will need to dust the crickets with a calcium/vitamin D3 supplement just as you do for your dragon. He would appreciate a little humidity so you can spray his tank once or twice a day. He is more likely to drink those droplets rather then from the dish.
That's about it. They are much simpler to keep then bearded dragons!  He's a lucky little guy to have landed with you
