Leopard Gecko Baby

Question
Hello,
My leopard gecko egg has just recently caved in, and I know that it is about to hatch. I am wondering what should I do when the egg hatches? What sort of proper environment should I put the gecko in? Can or should I pick the gecko up after it hatches? If there is any information you can tell me on how to take care of a new born gecko, that would be great!

Answer
Hello Mitch,

You should remove the hatchie from the tank with the other geckos in it.  The babies should never be kept in with the adults as they could attack it.
So it will need to go into a small tank by itself.  It will need the same type of environment as the adults.  It is fine to pick him up but be gentle when you do so & start slowly when picking him up.
Do you have a small 5 gallon tank for him, with an undertank heater & a low wattage basking light?  A moist humid hide is needed as well on the warm side to help with shedding.
