Question
hi, i am almost certain that i am buying a YBS in the next few weeks but i have some questions i need answering about the tank before i buy it. i need a list of everything i need for the tank. could i buy a fish aquarium and a turtle dock?
how much do you think it would cost for all of it approximate and minimum? if you could answer that would be a great help, thanks.

Answer
Hi James, Turtles can become very expensive especially when it comes to creating the right environment

1) An aquarium style tank will be great, be sure its new or cleaned very well with a 1/10 bleach water solution and rinsed VERY thoroughly. BIGGER TANK THE BETTER a ten gallon tank is even too small for a hatchling. 10 gallons of water per every inch of shell

2) Turtle docks are nice but if you are on a budget then a large clean smooth rock would work just as well, or a floating cork basking area may be better.

3) You will need:

-Tank -depends on size and used/new Free- $200+
-Land area - Free - $30
-Water conditioner - $5
-Water Filter -$10-$60
-Repti-Sun 5.0 UVB Tube Light (EXTREMELY IMPORTANT)- $30 not including fixture
-Basking light (a regular house light can be used as long as it maintains proper temperatures)$2-$30
-Two DIGITAL PROBE thermometers (one water temperature and one land area temperature) $10-$30 Each (can be found cheaper at department/home improvement stores then at pet stores)
- Food

I hope that helps,
Good luck
