Question
QUESTION: I have a yellow bellied slider that is a rescue turtle.  Up until two days ago he ate good now he doesn't want to eat and does not bask.  He had a little peach fuzz on top of his head and under his neck;  I gave him a salt bath for the last two nights and let him air dry.  The peach fuzz looks better but he still does not want to eat.  Also this morning I saw him yawn and rub his head.  Does this mean anything.  He has his aquarium with a filter and a floating dock and lamp.  I am new to turtles and I love him dearly.  I have had him for about three months.  What do I need to do.

ANSWER: I would need to know what the heat for the water and the basking spots are. At first this would seem to be fungal growth that may require a veterinarian to look at it. Heating is the number one issue when keeping reptiles healthy and eating that is usually overlooked by keepers.

QUESTION: Since I e-mailed you last, I have had my turtle to two vets for antibiotic injections every two days;  The vet done an xray the first day and said her lungs did not look bad. When I first took her her only symptoms were that she wanted to bask all day and not go in the water.  I went to see her yesterday at the vet and her eyes were fogged over and she would float leaning to one side.  The vet has also been giving her intravenous feedings.  I do not know what to do.  She still is not eating on her own.  Do I bring her home of take her to another vet?  I need some help. This has been going on since 9/23/11.  I have spent around a thousand dollars so far, so I really love her. She is about four inches across.  Please help.

Answer
Sounds to me like there is a bacterial infection of somekind and I would really have another vet who is familiar with reptiles look at the turtle and go from there. You may also contact Marc Oulette of littleresq.net he is a turtle expert with a lot of experience.
