Question
okay, sorry, my computer was acting up yesterday... My question is, do leo gecko behavior change extremely if you put them in a new environment? she has been trying to climb up the side of the glass.. which she hasn't done for more than five seconds before... now she will do it for almost 30 minutes.... Is she really trying to escape or just exploring? and should I be worried if she's acting goofy?  I just put her in a 30 gallon tank and I think she is overwhelmed by the space! I am also concerned that she is gonna have trouble catching the crickets, she had a little trouble in her old home...  Lastly, if she is the only one I own, do I need to worry about eggs? I was reading some of the other questions and saw some things about the females laying eggs....

Answer
Hi Colleen,
WOW!!!! Great questions!!
Yes, they can act very weird with ANY change in their lives. With the new set up, the glass may be different, and its reflecting or allowing her to see more, or if reflecting ....seeing "another gecko".
She's most likely checking out her new condo...and seeing if there are any escape routes that weren't in her other home. If she continues to "glass dance" or starts to rub her nose on the glass, you may want to try adding some decorative background..I remember when I first added a background to my one leos cage..she kept trying to climb the rocks that were in the "picture"...maybe your girl is seeing something through the glass that she thinks she can reach or climb? No reason to worry at all with her acting like a goof with the new tank.  She may decide not to eat for a few days or longer too...no need to worry on that either if she has a good supply of fat in her tail.
What many ppl do for feeding is to move them into a 10 gallon tank with nothing in it for feeding.
In MOST cases leos won't lay eggs if not bred....some will lay eggs even if they can see a male that is in another tank.  I have two females here, in separate 20 gallon tanks and neither have ever laid eggs....(fingers crossed)Of course there is no guarantee that she won't be the exception to the "normal".
To help her with all her new space, you can add a few more silk plants and things which may help her feel more secure.
