Question
Hi Ed;

I'm new to the reptile hobby and the lingo that goes along with it. That said, what is a jobber?

I was at an exhibit looking at snakes this guy was selling. He had little plastic cups with all kinds of diffrent snake hatchlings inside. One little cup had Black-headed python inside. It was only $250, so I asked him the sex of it. He said it was a male. So, I asked if he had a female for sale, too because I'd buy them both. He looked up at me and asked me if I was a jobber. At first I wasn't sure what he'd asked me. He repeated himself, saying it a bit louder this time. I said no, but what's a jobber anyhow? He said yeah, right! Sure you're not. I didn't know what to say. I left his little booth...with my money!!!

So, again, what is a jobber?

Thanks,

Tim

Answer
Hi Tim,
Welcome to the world of Reptiles. A jobber is a dealer. They will breed snakes and be at the same show next year in direct competion with ones there now. The seller usualy dosn't like to sell to another jobber as it will reduce the price of snakes by competion. They can't refuse to sell to you unless you admit that you are a dealer [jobber]. thanks.
