Question
i was thinking of getting a reptile my searches narrowed down to anoles or leopard geckos.i want only 1 reptile that can fit in a 32 inch long 10 inch deep 18 inch high vivarium or a 10 gallon tank .

i was wondering how much would a standard setup be including everything ?

is there any other reptiles that could fit?

Also could you just give me basic information on leopard geckos  ?

thanks.

Answer
Hi Devin, The 32 inch long, 18 inch high tank would make a nice vivarium for anoles, you could easily keep a male and two females in that space. Anoles will need a basking light from above for heat, a 50 watt should do and they should have a UVB source in the form of a fluorescent tube. You can decorate it with branches and a combination of real and plastic plants. something that holds humidity like coconut mulch works well for the substrate. You will need a spray bottle to mist them with. Anoles are active during the day and make nice display animals but they are really  not suitable for handling. If you want a reptile that tolerates being handled then the leopard is a much better choice. The 10 gal. tank you mentioned would be suitable for a single leopard gecko. They do better with heat from below so an under tank heat pad would be fine. They do not require UVB lighting. Reptile carpet is a safe choice to use on the bottom. A hide spot and a small water dish are the other things a leopard would need.
You will need to get a powdered calcium/vitamin supplement for both the anoles and the leopard.

I have included the catalog for lllreptile, they have pretty good prices so you can get an idea of what things will cost. I tend to go to the pet store just for what I have to get from there, like reptile vitamins, under-tank heat pads and UVB lighting. For everything else like light fixtures,  plastic plants, coconut mulch you will find that places like Home Depot and Walmart are much cheaper for the same thing.
