Reptile-Sitting?

22 14:10:29

Question
Hi, I was just wondering how much experience I would need
to do reptile-sitting (boarding)? I currently have about 5
years of experience with herps like leopard gecko's, newts,
frogs, and ackie monitors. The only thing is that I am only
14 years-old. Do you think I have the proper requirements
for the job? Also, how much money would be appropriate to
charge per day?

Thanks,
Dylan

Answer
Hi Dylan,
You would have to check the laws in your country as to age of being able to do reptile sitting. You would have to make sure that your care and knowledge of each reptile is 100% sound and correct.
You would need to have the room to set up the correct sized cages and environment for each reptile, unless the person was bringing the reptile in its own cage.  You would need to make sure your homes power source can handle the extra power that the boarding reptiles would need...of course you would need to have proper food supplies for the reptiles. And, a big one, your parents permission and support as that with you being underage, I would guess they would have to actually be the responsible party in doing the pet sitting.
Generally, here in the US, its about $10 a day to board a small reptile, but you would have to figure in the cost of you providing the food if the person didn't supply it. You can also offer to pet sit in the persons home....which, you would have to have a parent take you to the homes.
