Beardies and Tortoises

Question
Well, i have a 10" bearded dragon (snout to vent) and i also have a 4" Russian tortoise, i had to keep them in the same vivarium for a few days because the lighting in beardie's cage was faulty. I blocked them off from each other but when i was out the beardie had knocked down the "wall" and was asleep in the other side of the viv. They have been without the wall for a few days now and they seem quite content with each other's company. The viv is 4ft x 2ft x 2ft, and it is fitted with a UV lamp and a heat lamp. The lights will cost me a fair few dollars and i may have to sell the other viv anyway, so is it safe for the two reptiles to live together? or will it cause any health problems or fighting? Thank you.

Answer
Millie,                                                                As long as they are happy be happy. Just remember your tortoise will get large. If you give them enough room it should be fine. If he thinks his tail is food though he may bite it off and remember their tails do not grow back like other lizards. If you are going to keep them together make sure everyone is well fed and maybe give him some driftwood to perch high on. Eventually I would build something larger with lots of height for your beardie to climb. Good Luck,Tina
