QuestionI have a red-eared slider turtle (approx. 5 inches). He
was in a habitat and escaped. Gone for several weeks.
Just re-appeared swimming in our in-ground chlorinated
swimming pool. I have two questions. First, are we at
risk for salmonella? Will we need to empty the pool?
Second, I assume it's dangerous for the turtle to be in
chlorinated water, right?
AnswerI am NOT a medical professional but I would THINK that normal chlorine levels would be enough to take care of any bacteria your turtle might have introduced. Maybe give it a good shocking just to be sure. And yes, long exposure to that much chlorine would be bad for the turt.
