Question
My leopard gecko seems to be going on a meal worm strike.  She used to eat a few each day, now she won't touch them.  We have kept the mealworms in the fridge.  Do they become unappetizing to the leopard gecko after a period of time?  She still eats her crickets. Would the meal worm become untasty after a while?

Answer
Hi Marley,
Your Leo is being a smart leo!!!  When the mealies are kept in the fridge, they do not eat...therefore the nutrition level of the mealies is pretty low.
Try keeping some of your mealies in a tub with some oatmeal..feed them some greens and fruits...toss in some of the cardboard egg cartons...  after a few days of them eating offer them to your leo...see if she eats them then.
I never keep my mealies in the fridge...I have them in a tub with oatmeal and some other cereals/grains..and feed them the stems from collard greens, etc(I have iguanas that eat the greens) slices of potato, apple, etc... Some of the worms will turn to beetles(depending on how many/fast you are using the mealies) and the beetles will lay eggs..the eggs hatch..and VIOLA`!!! MORE MEALIES!!
If you only do about a weeks worth of the mealies at a time(in the tub, feeding) you most likely won't have many turn to beetles.
