between my lizards legs

QUESTION: Hi i have a bearded dragon that is about a year old now and i think is a female(not sure) but what i want to know is for the last couple weeks or so every now and then this odd red penis-like thing hangs out from between her legs, what is it and what should i do about it? its beggining to worry me because for the last couple days she hasnt been eating and i noticed it hanging out and i also want to know if theres something wrong with her.

ANSWER:  Heat water and dissolve a lot of sugar in it, then cool. Soak a clean washcloth in it and diaper it around the beardie's bottom.  Call her reptile veterinarian and say you have an emergency, that she has a prolapse, he should see you immediately.

QUESTION: is there anything else that can be done? I do not know any reptile veterinarians, she doesnt have one.

 It is the inside of her cloaca that is being pushed out.  Besides the sugar water soaks to retard inflamation, she needs a vet to put it back properly and put a couple od temporary stitches to keep it in.  Prolapses are usually caused by a high gut parasite level, which also should be addressed by a vet.  There's a directory of reptile vets that can be found in www.arav.org.
