Question
my husband has a california king snake that doesnt shed very often anymore....he has never handled him before and we were wondering if that is something that can bother him?  then i need to know how long they can last without eating? and how many times does it need to eat a month? we have never had a reptile before and trying to learn some stuff about him. Thank you very much for your time.

Answer
Well they should eat about twice a month.  Shedding is usually once a month and handling depends if he's wildcaught or captive bred.  Humidity can affect shedding.  I would gt a heat lamp on one side of the enclosure at about 85 degrees and the rest of the enclosure should be 75 or so.  I would also recommend taking a look at www.applegatereptiles.com as he is a premier breeder of Kingsnakes and Milksnakes and is always willing to help people out.
