Question
Recently i just see this product out of local lighting supplier "Kikari UV plus"from hitachi.Do you ever heard it?It can produce UVB?I have read a chinese instruction. It said that the new nami coating technique reduce the blockage of visible light and it block out up to 75% of uv ray produce by the lamp. Will it means that the light actually have a 15% uv output?Because i dont want to spent money on  the expensive reptiles UVB light.

Answer
Hello Kew,

That particular light, I have not seen any UVB meter discussion or results of UVB emissions on that one.  However, most of the cheaply made Chinese lights are hazardous.  That can mean that there is 15% UVB filtering through but if it is not the proper wavelength some of it could be UVC.  I never recommend UVB lights until they have been deemed safe & been on the market for awhile without people having a lot of problems with them.
I have seen most of the Chinese UVB lights to be faulty.  The best UVB tube bulbs are either the Zoomed Reptisun 10 fluorescent tube bulb, the Exoterra Reptiglo 8 fluorescent tube bulb, or the Arcadia D3 12% fluorescent tube bulb.  There is one that a lot of people in Australia tend to use which is pretty good called the NEC Blacklight T10 which is a decent fluorescent tube bulb.
Check online for the best prices to buy them because pet stores are more expensive.
I hate to say but if you are going to keep a reptile, it is your responsiblity to make sure that it has the basic essentials to maintain its health.  It is not fair for the reptile to deprive it of something that nature provides to it, in captivity.

Good luck.
