QuestionI have two Leapard geckos, One of them is a male Blizzard (color) and latley I have been noticeing little black and brown spots apearing on him. I was wondering if this is normal or could it be a fungus of some sort?
Thanks
AnswerHi Kelsey.
Some do form some spots on them...usually as they age form the "baby stage" to the "adult stage" many times, if gotten from a pet store, they are too young9and the breeders they may use) don't really keep their lines pure like the breeders that spend years perfecting their color patterns. Even the very best breeders may end up with one that will have spots...
If the spots look fuzzy or raised, then its most likely a fungus and you need a vet to determine what fungus it is as that some fungus require more care than the typical applications of tinactin.
I do suggest looking very very close to see if you see any very very tiny mites crawling on your leo..as they will also leave spots from biting your gecko,or..if the spots are that tiny, they may be the mites that you are actually seeing.
Give your gecko a warm bath(about 88-92 degrees) in some shallow water...pour some of the water over him...do the spots go away? If yes..then they can be mites for sure..
If the spots are fuzzy and raised, to find a vet in your area that is able to treat reptiles, please go to www.anapsid.org/vets If you find out they are Mites..there is a fantastic product called "reptile relief" it is a very safe and very effective product!!!
