Question
QUESTION: hi, i just brought home a crested gecko yesterday. He is about I'de have to say a couple months old. He seemed fine yesterday, but today he seems very stressed doubt, and is shaking and having a hard time sticking to anything. He shares an 18.5 by 12.5 tank with a Tokay gecko, separated by a Plexiglass divider. I am worried something is wrong with him. Also there are crickets in his tank with him and they are badly chewing on his tail, creating wounds. how can i prevent this?

ANSWER: Hello Amanda,

It sounds like your gecko is severely calcium deficient.  Are you using any calcium for him?
Since he was just brought home, he could also have worms or parasites so I would try to get a fecal done on him.  Too heavy of worm or parasite levels will kill him.
Remove the crickets if he is not eating them since they are carnivorous in nature & will destroy his tail & other parts of his body.
Instead feed him in a small plastic bin putting one cricket in at a time to see if he will eat them.  That way it wont stress him & they can't bite him, either.

In the meantime, you will need to treat the wounds with antibiotic ointment, daily to keep it from getting infected.
Let me know how he is doing.

QUESTION: How would i get a "fecal" done on him? does this require a vet?

Answer
Hello Amanda,

Yes, usually getting a fecal test does need to be done by a vet, but you can also buy a microscope, supplies & a parasite chart to do your own.  If there is a nearby school with an animal science or vet program, you may be able to take a fecal sample by to get it analyzed, too.
How is he doing?
