Blue belly lizard

Question
Hi, Back on mothers day my kids caught a blue belly lizard. Over the last week it has developed little brown bubble things under his scales up by his head. They are not bugs or at least when you touch them they do not move, but they do not come off either. He developed these while we were waiting for our pet store to get in more lights cause they were out. Any idea what it could be?
Any help you can offer is appreciated.

Thank you

Answer
At a guess, they are ticks.  Use tweezers to gently pull them out from under the scales, if this proves to be the case.

I recommend getting a good book on care of fence lizards and swifts, and of course, any wild-caught reptile should be taken to an experienced reptile veterinarian promptly, along with a fresh (not dried out) fecal sample, to be tested for internal parasites.  All wild animals carry parasites, and these can quickly build to lethal levels due to reinfection in a captive environment.

These lizards can make good pets, but wild-caught animals can be harder to acclimate and do need to be deparasitized.  If you are not an experienced reptile owner, you will probably have a much better experience if you let this animal go, and instead get a captive-bred leopard gecko from a good breeder--it will be healthy, acclimated, and free of parasites.  The cost of the captive bred animal will probably be less than the necessary vet care for the wild-caught animal.
