Eye Infection?

Question
My husband and I noticed about 3 or 4 days ago, that our male iguana's eye is swelling. I've read all about the lighting, and will equip the cage better, but I'm curious about the swelling and seeping. Is it an infection? or could it have been caused by him running into something? I'm very concerned...is there anything I can do at home to make the swelling go down?

Answer
Hello Holly,
What type of lighting are you using, for UVB, is it a flourescent tube or a compact or coil?  What brand is it?  What type of basking light are you using?
If his temps are not optimal then he could be getting a sinus infection possibly.  What are the temps & the humidity?
What type of substrate are you using, if it is loose maybe he got some in his eye perhaps?
I would probably get him in to see a vet if possible.  How long has it been like this?
The seeping does not sound good, that is indicative of an infection, yes.  You can get some saline wash & try to wash his eye out to get a better look at it.  The vet can give you some antibiotic eye ointment.  You can also get some online from  www.beanfarm.com

Let me know how he is doing.
