Armadillo Lizards

Question
I know its normal for armadillo lizards to shed their scales, but is it normal for the spikes on their back to shed as well? My lizard is losing his spikes. He is usually a lighter color, and the scales underneath are very dark. It doesnt look like they are mites, but the actual scales themselves. I just want to make sure this is healthy and that the dark spots are hopefully not something to worry about. Thank you for your time

Well, I would actually have to know the environment its being kept in such as lighting and heating on both the cool side as well as the basking side.  Also what types of foods are being offered?  All of these can attribute to the overall health of the lizard.
