african fat-tail eye problem

Question
My female fat-tail is having trouble with her eyes.  They remain shut and she is having trouble feeding for the last few days.  I tried misting her more frequently to see if maybe her shed was not complete.  She seems to be trying to lick one side of her face.  Could it be an infection?  She is trying to eat, but clearly is having difficulty seeing.

Answer
HI,
Sounds like it may be an infection or irritation of some sort.  Do you by any chance have her on sand?  She may have gotten some into her eyes..but since it is both, I would tend to go more toward infection,or irritation, possibly even an abscess since you say she is trying to lick her face.  Are you able to look in her mouth? You may have to help her eat by hand. Can you think of anything that may have been sprayed in the room she is in??Air freshners, perfume, carpet sprays, even furniture polish.. How about someone smoking in the room?  Both of these things will bother their eyes. Best is a vet visit so proper medications can be given.
