Question
QUESTION: hello. I got a beardy about 6 weeks ago. he has only eaten max of about 3 crickets a day, and some vegies. I have asked people here quistions about his cage and they said it was perfect. and the lighting/ heat is good. it is a repta sun 10 light. and the temp is 102. The cage they said was perfect. he was 4.5 inches when I got him and now is 6.5 inches. I am wondering if there is a problem with his and if I should take him back to the store or not. any help would be great thanks

Kyle

ANSWER:   He was very small when you got him, too small to be sold.  I'm guessing he was just a hatchling, so now he has grown two inches, and that is very good.  How are his poops?  Are they very smelly or runny?  If they are it is a gut parasite problem which a good reptile vet can diagnose and treat.  If his poops are firm with a little white piece, then he is fine and may just need smaller sized crickets or phoenix worms.  The fact that he is eating his greens is top notch, good for you!  If he is growing, has a little Buddha belly, and is active, he is doing well.

QUESTION: his dumps are sometimes very smell, and are runy with white stuff in them. when I first got him he had small solid non smelly dumps. What should I do here? should I take him back to the store? my parents said I can't take him to the vet. is there any thing else I can do? do you think that the store would take him back?
sorry that I have so many quistions. I a just don't know what to do.

thanks for all your help.

Answer
Poor baby has parasites and should see a reptile vet.  I'm sorry your parents won't let him be properly treated as all living things should be.  Contact a vet by phone and ask if he knows a good reptile rescue then contact the rescue to take him.  A good rescue will treat him with love, unlike a pet store.
Unless you parents allow you to give proper medical care, it will be best not to get another till you can afford it yourself.  I realize exotic vets are expensive, but they are as necessary to an animal as food and proper lighting.  Good luck finding a rescue.
