Blue Tailed Skink

Question
My Mom has a lot of blue tailed skinks around her house frequently.  Tonight, as she was headed to bed, she heard a clicking noise coming from a plant in her room.  Could this be one of the skinks?  do they make any noises?

Answer
Hi Darci, As far as I know those skinks do not vocalize but I assume that you must be in Florida or another of the southern states. In that case what your mom likely heard and has in the house plants is a gecko. A number of gecko species do vocalize, usually at night and it is often a clicking type sound. There are a couple (at least) small Asian house geckos that have been introduced to the U.S  decades ago on produce and plants and have established in a number of the southern states. In their native countries they are often known by the nightly sounds they make. The little house gecko "Hemidactylus frenatus" is known as the "chichak" in it's native Indonesia.
