weak veiled chameleon

Question
My veiled chameleon's seems to be weak legged.  I'm treating him for mouth rot and have been making sure he's hydrated with repta-aid which is suppose to provide energy and fluid support for non eating insectvores.  His mouth is getting better but his legs (especially hind ones) are not supporting him well.  His grip is still pretty strong though.  Is this a possible sign of metabolic bone disease too now???

Answer
Hi Eva, It is certainly one of the classic symtoms of MBD and often seen in captive reptiles. Veileds are a very rapidly growing species so their calcium demands are quite high during the first 6 months. Using a phosphorous-free calcium supplement with vitamin D3 is recommended in addition to a good quality UVB bulb.
How discouraging to notice this new problem when you were just making progress with mouth rot. If you would like to go over his caging and diet I may be able to make some suggestions. What are you using to treat the mouth rot? I may be able to offer some help with that as well.
Veileds are very easy to sex but mistakes do happen. Are you quite sure it is a male? The reason I ask is that females will develop eggs (without being mated) as early as 5 to 6 months of age and this often results in calcium issues and other health problems.
