Pacman frog lighting/heating

Question
QUESTION: So I bought a Pacman frog at Petsmart and I got a UV light, 75 watt. I quickly found out it dries him and his tank up quickly. I researched and every sight said a different thing like some said yes they need uv light and some said no just a under tank heater. I heard under tank heaters burn the frog when it burrows over it though. For now I just put a household lamp over his tank and it keeps it around 76 degrees F. I am worried he is no longer recieving vitamin d3 he got with the uv light though. So should I get a heat pad and give him a calcium and D3 supplement on his food? if so how often? The frog is 4 or 5 months old. Thanks.

ANSWER: I have never provided any of the Pacman frogs with UVB unless they were in a planted vivarium.  I would use a calcium supplement twice to three times a week.  I personally recommend using the Sticky Tongue Farms calcium supplements but that's my personal opinion.  The heat issue sounds like you have it under control another way is to get a bigger enclosure and use a lamp clamp to keep the lamp off the enclosure directly.  Best of luck and keep me informed on the Frog is doing.  If I get some time in the next month or so I will do a post on Pacman Frogs on my blog.

QUESTION: Thanks for the info and I just got him a low watt Night Glo purple light that is not really visible in the day but it keeps his temp at around 78 to 80 degrees. I also got a floresant light over his tank. I also got some calcium supplement for him. Ive got a couple more questions I just thought of. He never really goes in his water dish even though its easily accesable and fairly large and not deep. Im afraid he is going to dry out what should I do? He just sits burrowed in his coco fiber and even at night he doesn't go in it. And also how often should I feed him? Hes like 4 or 5 months old. Also is he old enough to eat a pinkie mouse? hes just a little bigger than a half dollar coin. Thanks

Answer
I would try picking him up after moistening your hands or putting on rubber gloves and moistening them and place him in the water dish just so he knows its there.  Keep the substrate moist through spraying early in the morning.  Feed him three times a week.  I wouldn't try pinkie just yet give him a few more months.
