QuestionThe hemi-penis on my ball python are sticking out. Is this normal or is this a big concern?
AnswerOther than during breeding, or occasionally for a brief time when scent-marking or eliminating, they should remain retracted. If the snake cannot retract them, this is called a prolapse. This must be promptly treated by a veterinarian, or he will lose the prolapsed hemipene(s) to drying, trauma, and infection (infection could even prove deadly).
