green anole egg

Question
We caught a green anole in the wild in Oct. 09. I came home today, Feb. 15,09 and found an egg sitting on a leaf. My lizard has been by herself for several months now, but was being chased by another lizard when she was caught. I've heard a female can hold male sperm for up to 8 months, then lay an egg. I also keep seeing websites telling me if there is no male in the cage, to just throw away the egg. I'm scared it is a fertile egg and don't want to just throw it away. How do I know if it's fertile or not?

Answer
It may be fertile.  I would leave the egg be, if it had a pinkish tint when it was freshly laid, it is an indication of fertility.  Keep the humidity up in the tank and watch.  Watch for any yellowing as that would mean the egg was no good and could be thrown out.  It may take as long as 60-90 days depending on temperature and humidity of the tank for a fertile egg to hatch.
