Dear Katie,
My daughter wants a rabbit for her birthday, which is fine.  My father has built a lovely large hutch so we're all ready to get the rabbit.  However my other daughter has decided she wants one as well now. What I need to know is can two rabbits live comfortable together in one hutch?
Look forward to your reply
Many Thanks
Kim

Hi Kim,
Well two rabbits can make wonderful companions if they have been together from a young age, however they need lots of space as they may want to be alone sometimes. If you have young children then I would reccommend that you get mini lop rabbits as these are very docile, loving and will live happily together. The minimum hutch for two mini lop rabbits would be either a 5/6 ft x 2ft or a 4ft double hutch. Although as you say your husband has already built a hutch, if you want 2 rabbits then I suggest you build a run on to it so that both rabbits have plenty of space. If you are going to get 2, then it may be best to get brother and sister and have the male neutered when he gets to 4 months and the female spayed when she gets to 6 months as this is the very best combination, they do not have to be brother and sister but should have been put together from a young age (don't get them from different pet shops). 2 boys will fight and 2 girls (like humans) will bicker and annoy each other.
I hope this helps!
Katie
Hi Katie,
Thanks for your quick reply.
My friend knows someone who has a rabbit who has recently had babies, they are now 10 weeks old, the only problem is they've only got two girls left, so do you think I should wait until I can get a baby brother and sister?

Answer
Hi again,
Well the thing you musn't do is just get them for the sake of it, try and look around and see whether there is two you fall in love with. However if you really think that you would like these two sisters then they will be fine together as they are sisters but MAKE SURE that you get them spayed as soon as they are 6 months old, as well as them getting on a lot better, in female rabbits there is an 80% chance that they will get uterine cancer, spaying will prevent this.
Good luck finding your rabbits! If you ever have any questions don't hesitate to ask.
Katie
