Question about my Bunny

Question
My bunny has been very "lazy" over the past few days. He used to hop all over the house and get into everything, but now he just lays aroung ALL DAY. Every once and a while he will do a little hop around the house, but for the most part he seeks a quite place to lay aroung and sleep all day. He has also changed his eating habbits. He is eating, just very little. I put a carrot in his cage yesterday and it's only half gone. He used to finish them in a matter of hours. He still lets me love him and give him lots of cuddles. And when I am holding him, he still gives me kisses. Do I need to be worried or is he just feeling kind of lazy these days as people sometimes do. Thank you so much for whatever help you can provide!

Answer
Hi,

get him to the vet immediately.  Anytime there are changes in diet like this, get to your good rabbit vet right away.  I'd say get to an emergency vet if you have one around you.  You don't want to waste any more time.

His diet is probably wrong.  He needs hay most of all, all the time.  Timothy hay.  Fresh.  This is what he should be eating the most.  Everything else he can live without, hay is what they are designed to eat.  Everything else should be in much smaller amounts compared to hay.  Very little greens.  Hardly any fruit, save 1-2 very small papaya pieces.  Never dairy, sugary items, seeds etc.  Should only have small amount of food pellets without extra crap in there (no seeds, fruit, nuts, etc).  He probably is overweight.

Plus, never give him a full carrot.  This is too much sugar/starch and is probably the cause of the problem, throwing off his regular gut bacteria balance.  Never high carb, high sugar items (even natural sugar items).  Plus you need to keep him cool during the summer and make sure he is drinking.  Heat will kill a bunny in the summertime.

Please get to a vet as soon as physically possible.
