QuestionFOR treating rabbit molar abscesses, after the rotting molar has been extracted - is bicillin or pen g more effective?
AnswerDear Elizabeth,
"Bicillin" is a brand name for dual-acting Penicillin G Procaine (short acting) combined with Benzathine penicillin (long-acting). The only difference between Pen G and dual-acting is the addition of the long-acting Benzathine, which allows the slow release of the penicillin into the tissues.
I prefer to use the long-acting version, as this will not allow a "window" for bacteria to begin growing again when the penicillin concentration in the tissues goes down.
Hope this helps.
