Answer
Hi Storm

Mold will certainly be bad for your bunny.  I am not really an expert on mold but I know that depending on the type of mold that bleach can kill it.  By diluting the bleach in a 5 parts water to 1 part bleach and cleaning the hutch thoroughly it should kill the mold.  The biggest thing you are going to want to do is to make sure that you let it dry completely out in the sun for a few weeks to get rid of any other germs that may have gotten into the cage.  If there are any pieces of rotten wood maybe you could have your dad, or an uncle or basically someone that knows a bit about carpentry try to replace it.  If the wood is stable and firm those parts won't need to be replaced.

Again I am really not an expert on mold and have only learned from my own basement which has excessive moisture.  I do know for sure that the mold can really harm the bunny.  If you have anyway to get a new cage or have one built this would of course be the best option.  If your bunny is going to be living in the house you can litter train him and section off a portion of your room or where ever you choose to keep him.  I use an 8 panel dog crate for one of my bunnies and it makes the perfect cage.  Of course he is litter trained so it keeps the mess down.  It is fairly easy to litter train a rabbit even if they are older.  It is said that it is far easier if they are neutered but I have multiple rabbits that aren't neutered that do indeed use the litter pan and then one that I had neutered only so he would be easier to litter train and he won't go near the litter box.

It is very kind of you to want to bring your bunny in the house.  Pet rabbits just really don't belong outside.

I hope that you are able to find solutions on how to kill mold.

Bless you and your bunny too.
