Too Many Treats.

Question
Hello Dana,
I have a 4ft. tall cage that houses my 2 rabbits.  On Dec. 31st I go in to check on them, and discovered that my dwarf (8 mths.) rabbit has jumped  on top of the cage and knocked down the bag of Kaytee Yogert Chips that I have for them and eaten all but maybe 6 of them. (Normally the rabbits only get 1/2 a treat in the morning and 1/2 a treat a night if that) After I saw that the bag was emtpy, i start to panic, becuase  i know that it is not good for her. For the rest of the day, Money was not playful like normal, when i let them out to run around, she ran under the bed and stayed there. All she wanted to do was laydown.  Her poop also turned from the normal "balls" of poop to the VERY soft VERY stinky VERY light green/brown, and was sticking to her behind.  I cleaned her up and gave her fresh grass. on Jan. 1st she was alittle more active and  eating lots of grass, but the the poo was in very small balls, still green/brown. This morning the poo is shaped normal, and its not soft, but its still kind light green/brown. When she was let out of the cage, she was playing, running and jumping around the room like she used to when she was a baby. I am assuming that she is feeling better because she is jumping about.  My rabbits has never had diarrea before and i don't know how to classify it. My question is : Do you think this was diarrea from too many treats or somthing much more serious from too many treats?

Answer
Dear Kelly,

Wow, you and your bunny dodged a bullet there.  The runny poop was very likely from overindulging in the yogurt treats, and your bunny had a few days of cecal dysbiosis for her binge:

If things are back to normal in the poop and behavior department, then she's likely on the mend.  But I guess I don't have to tell you to keep all sugary/starchy treats well out of reach of this clever little bunny from now on!

Good luck,

Dana
