Question
my baby rabbit has one of her hind legs that is sticking out to the side heaps sorta like it was bowed. i keep her in a hutch at night with newspaper on the bottom but she goes out on the grass everyday. im REALLY worried because she is my baby and i dont want her to be put down is there anyway you can help my sort this out? thankyou Brooke

Answer
Dear Brooke,

The leg could be broken, but if it has always been this way, it could be a case of "splayleg."  If this is a recent/sudden thing, then please take her to a good rabbit vet for evaluation and treatment:

www.rabbit.org/vets

But if this is truly "splayleg" (something she was born with), then please see:

www.bio.miami.edu/hare/splayleg.html

Note that if the leg is broken you MUST NOT USE THE SPLAYLEG PROTOCOL IN THE ARTICLE ABOVE!  IT WILL MAKE THINGS WORSE!

Before you do ANYTHING on your own, see a good rabbit vet and find out what the problem is.  Then the vet can help you decide the proper course of treatment.

I hope this helps.
