giant chinchilla rabbits: hind limbs not working

Question
Hi my husband had some rabbits given to him we are in the process of building them cages. So right now they are in a fenced in yard. The other day one of them started dragging her back legs. She has bold spots on them but no sores. Can you tell me what could cause this?

Answer
Dear Cindee,

Sudden loss of use of the hind legs is most often due to trauma, but there are many other reasons that this could happen.  Please read this:

especially the link to the article on this subject by Dr. Susan Brown.  But most importantly, get your bunny to a good rabbit vet immediately:

If this is due to trauma, then prompt treatment is critical to recovery.  In fact, prompt treatment of this problem due to *any* cause will increase the chances of recovery.

I hope this helps.
