Trimming a rabbits nails

Question
Hi I was having problems trimming my rabbits nails. I don't know how I should hold her while cutting her nails. I don't know what would make her comfortable because she seems to really dislike being held on her back, and it is nearly impossible to clip her nails holding her right side up. How close to the quick should I cut her nails? How often should I cut them? I just get really nervous when I try to cut her nails so I always put it off. How much do you think it would cost if I got a vet to do it the first time for me? To show me how I should do it.
Thanks!

Answer
Dear Katherine,

The cost of having a vet do the nail trim and showing  you how to do it varies tremendously, depending on where you are and who the vet is.  But it will certainly save you money in the long run to have someone show you how to do this safely.

You can find instructions online here:

But if you'd prefer a rabbit-savvy vet to show you, check for one close to you here:

Call around to find out prices, and you're off to the races.

Good luck,

Dana
