Question
Hello, i have (had) a black lopped angora rabbit. She (Alicea Annabell "Alice") has just died in my hands. My dad called me in saying something was wrong with my rabbit.I carefully took Alice out checking her and she would not move.she was alive because her breathing was fine and her heart was beating but she would not move.for about an hour i was holding her.then she started kicking again.it looked like she broke her neck because she could still not lift her head.her head then bent beck causing her to kick like crazy.i pushed her head back and she was fine again.i continued to hold her and she started making these meowing noises.she stopped and stated to gasp for air.i put her on my lap and pushed her chest to give her air but it did not work.so crying and praying i began to hold her again.and then she died.she was only 10 weeks old.could i get some help??

Answer
Hi Julie,

I am very sorry to hear about your young bunny dying.

I can't tell you why she died.  we aren't vets.  You'd have to have a vet do an examination to see if they could determine a cause of death.

I can give you a possibility.  But it's just a guess.  My guess is some kind of infection in the brain, or both an infection that led to a stroke, seizure or heart attack.  There are some certain diseases that hit young rabbits and can kill them rather quickly.

These kinds of deaths are generally unpredictable.  you need to remember you gave her lots of love and care, she knew she was loved, and she did not die alone and scared, the person who loved and cared for her the most was there with her.

Again, I am sorry for your loss.  If you are a Christian like me, you can take comfort that one day you will get your girl back, and she will never get sick again, and never feel pain, and never die again.
