Mobility problems

Question
I have a 2 1/2 year old angora houserabbit who has gradually been losing the use of her legs.  She started moving less about a year ago (I just thought she was depressed), and since then I've noticed increasing stiffness.  She no longer has the ability to clean herself well, she has become incontinent and is now occasionally unable to get up after lying down.  I finally found a vet who was willing to take the problem seriously, and she took x-rays and did a blood chemistry two days ago.  The x-rays showed growths on her bones (spondylosis I believe), as well as calcification in her veins.  The blood test showed that her calcium was fairly high, but not extremely so, and the vet doesn't think that her diet is overly high in calcium.  The vet has never seen anything like this in a young rabbit and is researching what to do.  In the meantime, the rabbit seems to be rapidly losing mobility, although her spirit and appetite seem good.  Do you have any ideas about what is going on and what can be done?

Answer
You can find information out about this at http://homepage.mac.com/mattocks/morfz/rabrefs.html#arthritis

It also might be helpful to join one of the online mailing lists, such as Etherbun or Disabled Rabbits.  Both have people who have lots of experience with such issues and can tell you what works for them and what they have done to slow down the progress.

Acupuncture might be one alternative.  With disabled rabbits, as long as they are happy and eating it's just a matter of how you can accomodate her disability.  And there are all sorts of people out there who can offer you ideas.
