Question
Hi, I have a doe who has just had her first litter.  She did very well with it being her first litter.  She had five kits, and with us being new to the rabbit world we have one that has made it, so far.  I have read a plethora of information on rabbits, but my question is this.  I know that rabbits have to uterine horns and can have two different litters, but the kit is about a week old and she is still pulling hair.  Is she doing this just to keep the nest box full with clean hair or is she pregnant again.  She had been in the same cage with the buck up until we discovered the kits and then removed him.  He is now in a makeshift cage and we are building another big hutch so we don't have to put him back in the cage with her.  If you could give me some idea of what to look for to determine if she is actually pregnant again or just being a very attentive mom I would appreciate it.

Thank you,
New to the industry,
Shelle

Answer
hello shelle

i hope all goes well with the rest of the babies.

A female rabbit can get pregnant again straight after the litter has been born so yes it can be possible that she is pregnant again however this is not the reason for fur pulling as rabbits only do this when its about 48 hours untill she gives birth. I think that it could just be that she is pulling more out to keep them extra warm.
