Panacur 25 and Baycox 50 drenches safe to use if nothing else available?

Question
Hi Dana,
Sorry to be a pain but I've had a moment of panic- are the Panacur 25g/L fenbendazole (25mg/ml??) and Baycox 50g/L toltrazuril (50mg/ml??) drenches safe to use in rabbits? With dose adjusted, of course. They were the only ones I could get and I've only used them on the sickest ones (the three with alarming weight loss) until I heard from you. I've had a message from Panacur Rabbit paste suppliers in the UK saying drenches are toxic to humans and should not be used on the rabbits. Can I use them? They were expensive, especially the Toltrazuril, but I will only use them if they're safe.
Thankyou again,
Nerida

Answer
Dear Nerida,

I am not sure what a "drench" is.  It's not a term we use here.  (The only definition I can find is an archaic one)  But if you mean oral medication, then yes, we use these regularly.

Our vets dose Panacur at 20mg/kg once per day, and ponazuril at 20-50mg/kg once per day, using it 7 days for coccidiosis, and 30 days for E. cuniculi.

But I'm really curious to know what a "drench" is.  Please do tell!

Dana
