Question
I have just found out my 2 rabbits are not 2 sisters but in fact, brother and sister. I have just got my male neutered, and they are now separated, how long before they can be back together again??

Answer
Dear Amy,

You don't mention how old your rabbits are, but it's actually more important to have the female spayed.  If she is already pregnant, the vet will be able to tell.  And if she's not, and is at least six months old, then she can safely be spayed so that the two bonded rabbits can be back together as soon as possible.

A male rabbit can retain viable sperm in his internal "plumbing" for two to four weeks, though the sperm will start to die off as soon as he's neutered.  In the meantime, be sure the two bunnies are housed as close together as possible, able to see/smell/touch, but not mate. That way, reintroduction will not be a traumatic battle.  But even so, be sure to read up on bonding before you reintroduce them in a neutral territory to be sure all is well.  Several excellent articles on this can be found here:

Hope this helps!
