White spot with red splotches on eye

Question
Dear Sir,

My Dwarf bunny, about a year old plus or minus 4 months, has developed a
white spot in the center of one eye which looks to me like Glaucoma.  Is there
another possibility?  On closer view she also has largish reddish splotches on
the eye, not in a particular pattern but near the center.

Please let me know as someone will be heartbroken if anything happens to
'Heather.'  Thank you.

Natasha

Answer
Hi Natasha,

most likely she scratched her eye and it became infected.  It sounds like there are ulcers on the eye.  It could be an infection that got into the eye from the sinuses, it could be cancer or even a cataract.  You must take her to the vet to get it diagnosed and treated, it will not go away or be okay doing nothing.  It will get worse and she could lose the eye.

You must get her to a good rabbit vet (not all are) immediately to save the eye.  You need to go to a good rabbit vet to get the best care in the quickest amount of time, and also to get the most for your dollar.  To find a good rabbit vet, go to:

www.rabbit.org/vets/vets.html

and find a House Rabbit Society recommended vet near you.  Please get her medical care as soon as physically possible.

Write back anytime, and let me know how things are going along the way.
