A white film over my rabbits eye

22 10:04:25

Question
My rabbit is about 4 years old and was bread big for eating but we saved him. Recently he has gotten a white film over his whole eye. We have washed it with warm water and gently rubbed it with paper towel but it wont go away. What is wrong?

Answer
Dear Sommer,

I cannot diagnose this without seeing it.  The bunny should be taken to a good rabbit vet:

www.rabbit.org/vets

for a full exam, and possibly for referral to a veterinary ophthalmologist.

This could be a corneal ulcer, an intraocular abscess, a fungal infection, a bacterial infection...the list goes on.  And without having the bunny examined in person by a competent vet, you won't know how to treat the problem appropriately, since each problem has a very specific treatment.

Please get your bunny to a good vet ASAP, as many such problems are painful.

I hope this helps.
