QuestionHello Dana,
I wanted to let you know that my rabbit was a doe. The thing I was seeing was a partial prolapsed uterus. Honestly in 20 years I had never seen one so I was shocked. The vet told me that he could understand how it could look like a penis because when you pushed down the uterus would just bulge right out. She did get spayed and she is doing very well. He told me that I was lucky because rabbits that have prolapsed uterus's usually get so sick that they die. I feel very happy now that I spent the money to get her fixed.
I am wondering something though. I already have 2 bucks that are both fixed but I have never bonded anything but neutered bucks. Will they accept her even though she is female? I wasn't sure if it would work. I know how to try neutral territory etc. I am just afraid that even though the bucks are fixed they might try to fight over her. I was just curious if you had any experience with bonding 2 bucks and a doe.
Thank you
Melissa
AnswerDear Melissa,
Wow, that *is* lucky! It's very true that prolapsed uterus in a rabbit is often fatal, so I'm glad you have a great vet who knew just what to do. I'll have to remember this if I ever get any other questions about possible hermaphrodites! (Our Maggie, whom I mentioned to you in the previous answer, is spayed--so fortunately that's not her problem.)
Whether the three rabbits will bond depends primarly on their personalities. They might get along very well--or not. And the only way to know is to try a bonding session in a truly neutral territory. There are many excellent articles on bonding rabbits here:

and those should help get you started. A trio is wonderful, and I hope it works for you! Just be sure to let the girl recover for at least two weeks from her surgery before you try to make this a happy threesome. Good luck!
