Question
my children recently saved a baby rabbit from being hit by a car, and it seems that there is something wrong with his front right paw.everytime it tries to walk, it falls over cuz it cant seem to use the paw and i havent seen it move it.my daughter thinks it's broken but i cant feel a break anywhere. we dont really have the money to take it to the vet for it to die or turn out that its not broken.is there anything that i can do without having to go to the vet?

Answer
Dear Vicky,

I wish I could tell you otherwise, but if the rabbit cannot use the foot, it needs medical attention.  If the foot is broken (which is possible even if you can't feel a break: it could be anywhere, including the upper skeleton), it not only will not heal correctly without help, but also could become infected. And that could be deadly.

If the vet knows this is a rescue, s/he may be able to help for a lower cost; it can't hurt to ask.  And if this is a wild rabbit, then you may need the help of a wildlife rehabilitator.  If you can tell me where you are, I can put you in touch with someone who can be trusted with rabbits, or you can contact Regina from Desert Cry Wildlife at:

I hope that helps!  Feed the bunny no formula, if he's on his own and out of the nest.  Fresh grass hay, water, and fresh greens are best.

I hope that helps.
