QuestionI have a lionhead dwarf bunny who is 6 months old. I noticed that where his longer hair is (behind his ears), his mane, is almost completely bald. Is the hair gone permenantly? Or is he shedding his baby fur/molting? Is there anything I can do to fix this? Thank you
AnswerDear Ashley,
If the fur is irritated or flakey/scaley, then he might have fur mites that need to be treated with Revolution (selamectin) from your rabbit vet. If the skin looks healthy, it may be that he's starting to shed for fall, or that he naturally has a patch of thinner fur there.
Most rabbits have a patch of much thinner, finer fur right behind the ears. Some have so little fur there it looks almost bald. It depends on the individual. But if the fur loss looks abnormal to you, please read:
www.bio.miami.edu/hare/furloss.html
and find a good rabbit vet here:

who can diagnose and treat any problem.
I hope this helps!
