Question
QUESTION: hi my rabbit has a snotty noise, and gunk in her eyes plz how can i help her

ANSWER: Hi Rhys

Your rabbit most likely has snuffles.  It can be caused by a bunch of different things but if left untreated it can cause pneumonia and death.  It could also have a problem with its teeth which can cause sinus problems and watery eyes.

You really need to get her to a vet ASAP and get her an antibiotic called Baytril.  The sooner she gets it the faster she will heal up.  Rabbits that aren't treated promptly can become chronic carriers and believe me you don't want this.  It is not a fun illness to treat and it is very annoying when you get them better and 2 weeks later they are sick again.

There is absolutely no home treatment for this.  It is imperative that the bunny be seen by a vet.

For a list of vets you can try this site:

http://www.rabbit.org/vets/vets.html

If you can't find one then start digging through your phone book and calling every vet you see and ask them if they treat 'exotic' animals.  If they don't there is still a good chance that they can tell you the nearest place to find an exotic specialist.

Good luck and I hope your bunny gets well soon

QUESTION: hi i kept my rabbits together since i had them bowt 4 month and they had babies but there getting ill and passing it back to each other and we are givin them to my grandad will he be alright by himself

Answer
Hi Rhys

The rabbit wont get better without antibiotics.  It really needs to see a vet.  Snuffles is very contagious and it can kill them all.  The best thing to do is take one of them to a vet and get enough Baytril for all of them.  They will probably need to be on it for 2 weeks and sometimes 3.

It is not a good idea to give a sick rabbit to anyone.  It wouldn't be fair to your grandpa to fall in love with a rabbit that is sick.  It is just not ethical when you know that there is something wrong with it.  It is my personal opinion but I would absolutely not give them away until you know that they are healthy.

Just think how you would feel if someone gave you a new pet and you found it was sick.  It would be very sad and it would be worse if the person who gave it to you knew that it was sick.

Good luck with the rabbits.  Please get them to the vet.
