My bunny is limping???

Question
He is limping periodically now, sometimes she hops away fine, other times she limps especially if I go near that certain rear leg. Is it possible perhaps he has glass or a splinter and only sometimes when he comes down on that glass/splinter then he limps?

-----Question-----
I have a 5 month old Dwarf Netherland bunny (Thumper) who is a unneutered male. He's been happy & healthy until the other day when I attempted to pick him up to hold him and he freaked out &jumped out of my hands & landed on the floor pretty hard but seemed ok. Then last night saw him limping. No yelping or any outbursts of pain. I did notice that his rear right legs nails are very long, can this be the problem? Someone else said it could be the start of osteopathy (lacking a mineral). I feed him his pellets, &just switched him to timothy hay, give him pieces apples and pears, and romaine lettuce. He is eating and going to the bathroom fine. Can it be fractured/sprained/broken? What is making him limp?
-----Answer-----
Hi Elizabeth,
He's most probably sprained his leg,or fractured it.  Rabbits don't like to be held high, they feel most safe on the ground. The best way to hold them, especially when they're young is to have them on your lap while you're sitting.  this way there won't be any unforunate accidents.  Many pet rabbits get hurt because of this.  A fall to the floor is hard on those tiny bones which can be easily broken.
If the limping doesn't stop withion a few days,I would have your rabbit examined by a vet.
I wish you luck
    take care,  Elizabeth

Answer
If the rabbit is still periodically limping, there must be healing, then hurting itself again from too much excitement or movement. I would keep it really quiet in a fairly small area for a week, and see what happens at that time...
   good luck,Elizabeth
