Question
hi there, i used to breed rabbits and guinea pigs from my pets responsibly. for the first time in 3 years i bred one of my rabbits who has never had babies before. they are 5 days old and all was doing well, the other day one of the babies was out of the nest and the mother didn't seem bothered it was there, i had to quickly scoop it up and put it back in before it froze to death. today i got a phone call from my distressed mum to tell me one of the babies was out the hutch completely. my dad picked it up and put it back in, thankfully it was still alive, he miscounted the remaining babies as in the nest there were only 6 left out of the 8 (very large litter i know). the other 2 beautiful babies were underneath a different hutch sadly dead, completely untouched. a lady told me she may have had too many babies and tried to get rid of some of them because she couldn't cope which is totally understandable but so distressing for me. any way i can prevent her killing off the remaining 6? thanks, chloe x

Answer
hi chloe-onr thing you have to understand is that any babys that gets dragged out the nest or goes out the nest -the mothers will not pick them up and put them back-this is the case for all doe rabbits-they just leave them to die.
i usually go to see them last thing and any out the nest i put back.
